MODAL VERB “ have to”

HAVE TO= повинен  /ˈhæv tə/, /ˈhæf tə/

In general, have to expresses impersonal obligation (for example, the Law or school rules).

  • In France, you have to drive on the right.

  • In England, most schoolchildren have to wear a uniform.

  • John has to wear a tie at work.

 

 In the "have to" structure, "have" is a main verb. To make a negative or question form it needs an auxiliary verb (do, does, did…)

have to get up early.

                                 I do not have to get up early.

                                                                             Do I have to get up early?

he, she, it

She has to get up early.

                               She does not have to get up early.

                                                                  Does she have to get up early?
